Top Homebuyer Preferences

The National Association of Realtors released its annual Profile of Buyers’ Home Feature Preferences. Among the most preferred features nationwide were: oversized garages, central air conditioning, a walk-in closet in the master bedroom, hardwood floors, granite countertops, cable/satellite TV readiness and energy efficiency.

One other significant finding was that about 60% of recent homebuyers started a remodeling or home improvement project within the first three months after their purchase. The kitchen and bathroom were the areas that received the most remodeling attention. The median amount spent by buyers on home improvement within the first three months after purchase was $4,350.

Remodeling and home improvement projects are very common among homebuyers in the Ulster County area. This is particularly true because the housing stock is older than many areas of the country. The cost of material and labor tends to be higher also, so homebuyers in Ulster County should expect to budget for more than the median amount.
