Ulster County Could Buy Flood Prone Homes

Under the Greater Catskills Flood Remediation Program, Ulster County has been allocated $2 million to purchase flood prone homes. 23 homes have been identified for the program, but funding will only allow for the purchase of 12. Local towns have participated in helping identifying homes and owners who might benefit from the program. To qualify, the value for the home must be under $250,000, but preferably under $150,000. Homes that are purchased will be demolished and the property will then be classified as ‘Forever Wild’.
